The real problem re what flights run to which airports is that the choice is beyond being able to summarise!  The likes of Easy Jet, Ryan Air, Jet2.com and so on offer so much that I almost can't believe it.

I think that people from abroad should be advised to work out the easiest flight from where ever they are to the UK (including Heathrow & Scotland), then decide if they want hire car or public transport (please note many of the activities are on site, obviously the caves are not), and then if appropriate, point to train or coach / bus alternatives.

Suggestions like take a taxi to Shippley make me shiver.  Given I can't speak any other language, the thought of asking at some foreign small town location in a foreign language not understood by the locals, what is the next train to where ever seems a recipe for a right warm welcome.  (Clapham Junction, London verses Clapham, Yorkshire any one?)  Sorry Kay, I can't see that as a sensible suggestion to people like me from another land.  Keep it simple (for the) stupid (like me) seems to be the guiding principle to me.

As I intimated, the organisers will need to sort out and make clear what transport arrangements are going to be.  There is not only the question of getting to & from Dalesbridge at the start and end but also what about going and getting shopping and so.  I think we also need to be guarded on ukCaving as to what might be achieved so as to not over blow what the average person with limited english can undertake in our insular isle.

I also gather it is anticipated a fair proportion of attendees will not stop on site but take hotels / B&Bs off site.  Where do you find a few hundred local B&Bs?  And then do you organise transport or what?

I wasn't making the suggestion  to "people like you from another land" - the suggestion to go to Shipley not Leeds was to someone whose English was good enough to contemplate doing the journey by public transport, not for someone with no knowledge of English and thus unable to read my post. There aren't any simple public transport options to Dalesbridge.

Apperley Bridge, after it opens in August, will be just down the road from Leeds Bradford International. Thanks to Kay, though, for
pointing out that the trains passing through it on their way to Settle/Clapham won't be stopping: you'll need to change at Skipton.

Guiseley Station will still be the nearest station to the airport :tease:

Actually, Horsforth is the nearest - even if you measure to the terminal building rather than the perimeter fence!  :spank: :spank:

But in case anyone take this seriously - there's no direct bus to it from the airport, and you'd have to change trains at Leeds, so you might as well take the bus direct either to Leeds or Shipley, in both cases then being able to take a through train.

Most of the foreign cavers I've met in Yorkshire have (as Andy Hamilton put it) those dodgy foreign accents that sound like almost perfect English.

They probably do if they're from Lancashire. :)

Hello Bob,
I don't think that you are recognizing the achievements of our continental friends in making English the lingua franca of the modern world.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_countries_by_English-speaking_population

There are nearly as many English speakers in Denmark as there are in Yorkshire.

This is good, I hope this thread is helping make the organisers aware of logistic requirements, I also hope it is not too late  ----

Look on the bright side, anyway without a good command of the English language trying to work out how to get to the airport from this thread could end up having a great adventure almost anywhere.
