I have noticed on the photographs of the very white formations that they have black or brown specs on them.
Is this Mineral or is it organic material?

Some of the specks seem to be calcited in and some look to to be on the surface!
which suggests  then been deposited over a long time scale which to me would be
very odd indeed if it was organic. What about bat droppings?

Some minor edits to these but more work on cloning the black background needed. All photos taken in a rush with a pocket camera with single on camera flash. Can't be bad for that. Peter is the good photographer so we all await his work.

Hiya. I'm pretty sure they are bat droppings. Quite a few of the caves in the Manifold Valley (Peak) where I am based have similar specks and some National Trust staff I know have also confirmed that.

Hard Times.

First decent. If I am dumping too many MB's on the server somebody better warn me these are all high res.

As a sequence there is Topless Aven - Topless Dig 35m , Great Expectations 25m , Hard Times , Resurrection - The Frozen Deep.

These photos record the entry and exploration of Hard Times.

The end of Great Expectations. Hard Times begins.

Do folk want me to run this photo sequence back through time or is there a problem with the high res uploads ?

OK.

Let me tell you a story ---

The Long Road South.

In the beginning --
Stanton starts the Topless Aven Dig but abandons it 15m in due to lack of spoil space and interest in Herbert's Attic dig.
Glanvill, Grass et al . Push the dig upwards into a well scalloped undercut ending in a horrible pool after a few metres. Work is abandoned as nobody wishes to sit up to their neck in a cold pool.( Except Glanvill )
All attempts at pumping out the pool fail. The group concentrate on the north road over 50 digging trips removing many tons of rock and gravel.

Reservoir Christmas party 21/12 /11.
Ali Moody, Nigel Cox, Peter Glanvill, Rob Harper , Nick Chipchase.

Nick gets pissed and falls down a climb. It's now called " Drunkard's Plunge ".

Despite protestations from puddle lovers . Nick and Nigel bring down the roof above the pond. Those scallops tell a story.

You can see the pump tube on the floor.

013.jpg

The wretched end of the Topless Dig we called " Peter's Puddle ".

022.jpg

All the shoring and cementing above the puddle has to come down.

A sight I have come to know well. Nigel at The Silo.

Sadly nobody shares his enthusiasm.

Although we did not know it for nine months and nearly forty digging trips later. Great Expectations lies above the path of the dig. No matter it was fun and a stabler route has been achieved.

Peter is writing up the history of the exploration of Reservoir Hole.

Would it be boring to ask if more than one small photo could be put in an album with a link to it?
I'm on a slow connection and trying to scroll through the loads of photo's over several pages to find a specific post was frustrating...

Sadly, I agree. Unfortunately this thread is becoming increasingly hard for me to follow due to the download times (3G and a weak signal) and I may have to abandon it altogether. :cautious:
