    An informative discussion

Recently there was long thread about the BCA. I can now post possible answers to some of the questions, such as "Why is the BCA still raising membership prices when there is a significant amount still left in its coffers?"

That's a good point you make there, Mel.

Plenty of people on here will have dione pitches as dramatic as Titan, especially those with mine exploration or foreign trip experience, but to someone that's not been to these sorts of places before, that's some serious courage.

Mr Grylls has a persona that leaves much to be desired but lets not forget he's just doing it for the money.  Has anyone met him in real life??
I've not met Grylls, or Mears, but I do know a little bit about Ray Mears's early years, and as far as that goes and where he has gone since, he seems an all round good chap to me. He presents himself well, and appears to care a great deal about the wider world, and seems keen to pass his knowledge on to others. If he does it as a profession, well, why not? If you want to spread your message widely, the media he has chosen seems to be pretty effective.

I've met Edward Grylls (aka "Bear") many years ago at an after-dinner speech thing. While some folks lapped up his tales of derring-do, the majority thought his "me me me" bulls**t made him into a phoney.

I've not met Ray Mears, but would like to. His narratives on how the wild west was won were, in my opinion, even better than his survival programmes. He could be the next David Attenborough.

I have also met Bear Grylls on a scout event where I have to say in my opinion he was very good, he mingled with all the young people and he asked them about what they did, in the 1/2 hour he was there he did not mention anything about himself,
I still think his programme is rubbish and choose not to watch as the one I did watch (cant remember who was the other person was) but it was hyped up for TV for the wow factor and not how it is.
Ray Mears programmes are okish but would normally choose to watch something else.
