Congratulations to all involved over decades of underground struggle.
This is brilliant news.

From an old semi-retired CSS (Welsh) caver.

A small request though. Could the choke be widened enough to fit a zimmer frame.

Andy,

The connection hasn't opened a great deal of opportunities for exchange trips as Lost Johns is connected to Pip via a deep sump, and Notts II is connected to Notts via another sump, which is connected to Ireby by a 3rd sump.

The most popular throughtrip will probably be Lost Johns (Centipede or Dome) to Notts II (anyone fancy a Lost John's Pullthrough :p). The longest is probably Lost Johns to Cupcake, and hardest Boxhead to Cupcake - although someone with far more knowledge will have to confirm this!

Hi,

I'm a reporter with The Northern Echo and Darlington and Stockton Times looking to do an accurate story on the breakthrough. Please could someone give me a ring on 01325 505067.

Cheers, Joe Willis.

I don't know anything about Cupcake - there's Voldemort's too isn't there?  What about either of these via Rumbling Hole (for an anorexic few).

As far a I know, very few people have done the Rumbling-Lost John's connection, in fact I was told by someone a while ago its never been done since its original exploration in 1985, but I dont know how true that is - its very small, very wet and probably very stupid.

Cupcake is a new entrance which drops you down count lazlo stroganoff's aven in Notts II. From the Decent article a while ago it sounds like parts of the connection are quite difficult, which is why I suggested it. I know absolutely nothing about Voldermort, other than that its an entrance into Notts II, so I dont know how it compares.

Rumbling Hole to Cupcake would certainly be the hardest traverse with no diving now Notts II and Lost Johns are linked.
Deaths Head is les than 70m from connecting to Rumbling Hole which would open up Long Drop, Big Meanie, Deaths Head for extending the  traverse.
It's just waiting to be done!

Chris.

If we're playing that game:

"Kirby Lonsdale" -> "Kirkby Lonsdale"

I hope the press pick up the release and it gets some good coverage in due course. Congratulations.

Congratulations to all concerned. Superb effort!

(I know this is a little late, I've been out of touch for a couple of days. First saw it in The Mirror today (someone elses), one photo and a caption.)

Onwards towards West Kingsdale then. Where are links likely to be made here if they exist? Is Chapel le Dale a valley to far, or could that happen one day as well ?

The water from Marble Steps resurges at Keldhead through the Marble Steps branch of the KMS, so connecting those together would be a big step. Then Connecting Marble Steps to Large or Rift.

Chapel le Dale has, of course, already been connected underground to Kingsdale ? lllusion Pot and Dale Barn Cave . . . but whether they could be connected to the main Kingsdale caves is an open question.

Quite possible, by diving only probably. Dale barn is in Chapel le Dale and it ends in Kingsdale, there's a sump, Boottrapper IIRC, that heads up valley in the direction of the East Kingsdale caves.
