CONTRACTS / OPERATIONS MANAGER – Civil/Geotechnical Engineering

Established in 1983, now employing over 200 staff and with a turnover in excess of £18m, CAN is a specialist civil engineering contractor, delivering projects across the UK. CAN is part of the RSK Group which generates £175m revenue.

CAN Geotechnical provides solutions to challenging and complex ground engineering projects within all aspects of the construction and civil engineering markets.   

Due to company expansion we are looking for a Contracts/Operations Manager to join CAN Geotechnical, to be based at our head office on the northern edge of Chesterfield, Derbyshire.

Reporting to the Board, this is a senior management position with opportunity for the right person to reach Director level. The Role:

•   Manage the delivery of all geotechnical contracts and be responsible for the day to day running of operations of the business.
•   Managing and driving improvements in safety, efficiency and profitability.
•   Oversee, develop and challenge our growing team of 6 Project Managers - We are looking for someone who will be a mentor, role
        model and coach - a great manager of people.
•   Co-ordinate with all departments within the company: Commercial, Estimating, Accounts, Warehouse, Structures and so on.
•   Liaise and negotiate with clients and suppliers.
•   Feedback the performance of active contracts to the board.
•   Based in Chesterfield with visits to satellite offices and sites around the UK

Experience, attributes and skills required:

•   Degree level or equivalent.
•   An open mind – we don’t expect to find a candidate who knows all there is to know about what we do but we want a candidate who
        is keen to learn and grow with the business.
•   A practical knowledge of contract management - minimum 10 years working within a contracting organisation, at least 5 of which
        have been in a construction management role, including management of sub-contractors and client interface.
•   SHEQ management, working under NEC/JCT Forms of Contract and programming experience is essential.
•   An eagerness for innovation – we’re always striving for better and the successful candidate will be one who wants to be
