Banksy?
« on: November 13, 2021, 06:35:33 pm »
Spotted while doing Snakes and Ladders in the slate quarries today.
Looks like his work to me.
Maybe he thought it would be a good spot. No one will be able to remove this!

Whereabouts is the slate quarry? It doesn't look like his usual stencil work.

Seems like it could be by "Banksy-style grafitti art by “Panik” (Jack Murray).”

From https://www.dailypost.co.uk/whats-on/whats-on-news/north-wales-secret-walks-hidden-20497934

Quote
Dali’s Hole, Dinorwic quarry, Llanberis
Dali’s Hole is a transient blue lake with waterfalls in the heart of the massive Dinorwic quarry.

Empty in dry weather, it offers “one of the greatest adventures in Snowdonia”, said writer Daniel Start, author of Wild Guide Wales.

“It’s much used by climbers, but is mostly private land, so be respectful and discreet,” he said.

“From here, explore through the waterfall double tunnel into “California” with its giant snake chain, and its Banksy-style grafitti art by “Panik” (Jack Murray).”
I'm not a complete idiot: some parts are missing!

In Mordor. Just out from the tunnel from the The lost World.
I passed this way a month ago and I don't think it was there then.

That is the 11 quarrymen at Dali's hole (The trumpeter has been there since at least 2017 - see previous link - & earliest references to other pic seem to be around the same time)

Actually panik's work doesn't seem to have been of that quality, apparently the 11 quarrymen is by marymary:

http://tohatchacrow.blogspot.com/2014/07/the-slateghosts-in-machine.html?m=1

Unfortunately ponyandrider site no longer exists, but the text & both images are reproduced in the 2nd link which is from 2014 (links from ukclimbing for Jack Murray's efforts also no longer work)

Thanks, looks like there are at least 2 more images to find (of single & double quarrymen), although apparently there were 4 copies of the eleven, at least 2 of which have been removed:

& marymary does appear to be in Canada:

Like the stencil graffiti bit that aside, isn't snakes and ladders a great day out? Took my son on the first half summer before last, but only as far as the top canteen (not into lost world) as it was a bit too much for him at the time

That's not a location that's just names to me. I presume they refer to a quarry somewhere in North Walses near ????

They are climbers' names for parts of Dinorwic.

Seems the bugler has a doppelganger:

The origin of both (giving the blasting warning):

The trouble with Dinorwig is that the quarry pits, and interlinking ladders, levels, paths and tunnels between them is a bit too complex for things like grid ref or even aerial photos, so things like on the left when exiting the tunnel from Hades into California or exiting the tunnel from lost world to Mordor are the only useful descriptions available. "Snakes ladders and tunnels" is a great all weather day out if you're in the Dinorwig/Llanberris area

Sorry Mrodoc it was presumptuous of me to think you would know where I meant. Lots of YouTube vids of it if you search Snakes and Ladders. Also some detailed descriptions.
Highly recommended if you're in the area. Best done midweek as some bits you may have to queue!

And if you were a member of AditNow and were logged in when it was locked, there's about a week's worth of reading of the documentation up there - the bugler is pictured in a 2016 upload:
