Route finder videos

The route from the recently-excavated BigMat Calf Hole entrance into the far reaches of the 18km-long Torca la Vaca system is complicated. Indeed, a team last November spent 3 trips trying to find the way through. (The background, photos, descriptions, survey and other links can be found through the BigMat Calf Hole page on the Matienzo Caves Project website: http://www.matienzocaves.org.uk/descrip/3916.htm)
Diane Arthurs and Simon Cornhill set out to document the route on a GoPro to give future explorers a better chance of not wasting time and effort. The result is two videos.
The longer one is almost a half hour "real time" trip through to the middle of Torca la Vaca;
the shorter one highlights the critical junctions. The equipment and lighting used is shown at the end of each video.
Given the relatively roomy size of most of the passages, the team work and equipment that Si and Di used seems ideal. Two people, both lighting the route, are much better at documenting a passage than just one person and the minimalist equipment means that passages are traversed at caving speed, in real time. (There are no other camera angles used, but they are not required for these route finder videos.)
The results, which include a moving survey of the route alongside, are on YouTube.
