The Long Read item in the Guardian yesterday was about a Greater Mouse-Eared bat that has been hibernating every winter for 16 years in a disused railway tunnel in Sussex.

Bat enthusiasts might find it of interest, as did I.

The species was also mentioned in the news on Radio 4's Today programme, along with other British mammals under threat of extinction.

The good news is that badgers are on the increase. Obviously we need to issue our "marksmen" with automatic weapons instead of those rifles they are using.
