The best website ever for cavers

Calling all cavers: you simply have to check this website. A fabulous source of information, almost none of it true...

This is a great resource of folly.  "The deepest darkest descent into the worlds most treacherous cave EVER" springs to mind. Although "Caving Can Result in Painful, Sometimes Irreversible Damage" has some truths to it.

I do hope your book will be a little more sensible  ;)

I particularly like the 'it might rain limestone' - accompanied by a picture of a Fingal's cave, a basalt sea cave :p

Hilarious! Pity the poor old cave diver - faced with having to confront all those dead bodies bobbing around in the sumps every time they dived. Mind you, I did once unearth the buried treasure of an ancient civilization, down Goatchurch. Crammed into a hidden crevice by some an ancient cave-dwelling ancestor, I stumbled across a Marathon bar wrapper! Predated even the roadworks around Birmingham on the M6!

Regarding laying line in caves, the only place I have seen it is Ireland in Coole Cave where string could be seen calcited in. Mind you, about 20 years ago, I met a chap outside ANUS cave about to descend and he was taking in a line reel with line on it. Apparently he liked exploring the occasional cave on his own and preferred to be able to find his way out. No, he wasn't a cave diver ;)!

What's a "professional spelunker"? I suppose someone who guides people around caves for a living, but they didn't seem to be using it that way. How many people get paid for caving? (without having to  take a whole lot of novices with them)

Some of photographers might be making a professional living. Hazel Barton (prof) in the states.... not many.
