This is very tragic,

what do you think of this ride in a mine shaft? with only a seatbelt for safety!

they had no shoulder protector and no belly bar just a seatbelt, the park chose not to add them to add to the experience

How very sad. A seatbelt doesn't seem very failsafe to me - and clearly wasn't. You'd have thought that in a litigation-rich culture like the USA, the operators might have been more cautious.

I'm intrigued by the comment '4G acceleration' when it's driven by gravity, unless they're talking about the final deceleration...

Difficult to comment until we know the cause. However, the rides have a minimum height of 48 inches, which the average 6 year old wouldn't reach (45")

It will be the final deceleration.  I remember being on a coal board arranged visit to Pleasley colliery long ago (in my sixth-form days) - they showed us the big steam winding engine, and explained that as we were a) young and b) inexperienced, they would lower us down slowly.  We got into the cage, the doors closed, and the floor just fell away from under our feet.  The experience when at last they put the brakes on was something different altogether...

Roger W?s reply reminded me of the mischievous grin Scoff gave me as he was driving the GG winch and I glanced across at him from the chair?..

Glenwood Caverns workers didn?t properly check girl?s seatbelts before fatal plunge, report finds
...
the girl, Wongel Estifanos, was sitting on the two seatbelts
...
An alarm system warned of a problem, but the two workers weren?t trained well enough to know what to do about it, so one of them reset the system and sent the ride on its way
