I'm about to go on a caving trip to Spain.
I'm going with some friends, one of whom is in the Navy.
Do I have to delcare this trip as a military trip.

Every expedition in the world is asking themselves the same thing, whether they have military on board or not.

I think: why alert authorities to the fact that they should worry about you? Better to come and go unnoticed. I think they'd rather not know, than be asked to react.

Nomatter what you do beforehand, whether you are on a science visa or not, if you get into trouble in a cave, the local authorities will likely react imprudently and trouble will ensue. There is no way out of this situation; Cuetzalen Tiger may have made mistakes, but it's hard to imagine how they could have avoided controversy altogether.
