I believe he may be using the legendary Alvaro system, known to few, mastered by fewer, and survived by exactly one.

I tried that "Spanish" method for descending.  On some rather thin nylon cord.  Once.  Never again.

Did you also try the ascending method?

For the record (IIRC), it's "ascend without any jammers". Others who were actually there could tell the story properly.
