GAH!!!  :chair:

Somewhere sensible please, in keeping with the other said venues - nice and easy for punters and preferably free.

Does it have to be indoors? There must be many suitable trees. Leazes park in newcastle is quite good but a bit of a trek from the dales. Right now my minds blank and i cant think of any trees in yorkshire. Probably because i've not been for too long. How about bottom of lane up from horton (towards that hut, my mind really is blank right now, all i can think of is writing bloody job applications and i appreciate this may not be the most informative of useful post you ever read but it's one more to catch the cap'n...).

malhams not such a bad suggestion - it'll be piss wet with seepage at the moment - so your not going to annoy any climbers. I used rubicon once. You can stay dry in the rain, Bolt to bolted up a route ("the cissy" I think) set up a straight forward 'pitch with one re-belay' and a parrallel rope for me to be on, and gave a kid some 're-belay' passing practice.

I bet Malham would lend itself even more. Im not that familier with Malham - but couldnt you abb off the catwalk - and set up something on the cliff below, or failing that - clip stick up a route off the catwalk. (not ideal for complete beginers though - admittedly.

Or find a tree.

Under neath some rail way arches - what about the one nr Ingmire Hall on nr Sedbergh. (Awesome Bridge there too).

Malham isn't the worst suggestion in the world, you are indeed right. But I think they'd sh*t it. Anyhoo... have found somewhere cheap and available. Ta all.

 - funny you should say that. My mate got up to the re-belay at rubicon and was in a right state - had to swop him over there and go back down.

We were there to give him practice cause he wasnt too good with heights. I thought rubicon is only small. No bother.

But - as aluded to in another recent post - so many folk seem to be fine with heights under ground but get em 20ft up in daylight and they lose it.
Same with this lad. Strange.

I used to ab off the top of Malham many years ago, but that was stopped and the bolts were removed from the top.
The story at the time was that the climbers had been pissed off with the number of cavers abbing past them and complained to the Park Authorities, who had agreed to ban it. I later heard that it was something to do with some endangered plant/moss/bird. I'm sure that someone on here will know the real reason.

A couple of year after that they stopped people jumping off the bridge at Kirkby Longsdale. I think that the ice cream seller must have had a hot-line to the police judging by the speed they arrived at. The reason there was something about it being an ancient monument and you couldn't stand on its walls. I asked one attending policeman if I could hurdle the wall to get round that interpretation and he threatened me with 'incitement to commit an offence' because anyone who followed me might touch the walls. :-\

Even longer ago I used to bridge swing from an old viaduct in S.Wales. That eventually gained a sign from the local council stating that the footpath over the bridge was just confined to the middle of the bridge and that anyone hanging anything over the walls would be charged with trespass. I didn't push this one as I gained enough sense not to do such a silly thing again o_O

I think that the authorities must have relaxed their attitude towards people jumping off Devil's Bridge. There was some days last summer when there appeared to be a near continuous rain of (mainly pissed ) peole hurling themselves off! The police didn't seem too bothered.

Would be polite to share the information as to where and possibly even how much. If you were further south then I'd suggest come to our club hut on a Thursday and persuade someone to let you play on the outside of the windmill. All nicely P bolted.

appersett viaduct near Hawes (and near Appersett would you believe) is ok I think(about 15-20m?)

also the tree in the car park at Bull Pot Farm can be used and is actually rigged higher up I think?

Not sure but I'm sure I saw P bolts at the old quarry which is adjacent to Ingleton- the one you go past if you go behind the market place, past the chippy and carry on. There are some short cliff faces and a long slope at about 45 degrees which I think would be great for initial descending practice- if anyone else has been recently they might have more info.

Beezley Quarry, Storrs Common. I've never used the p-bolts but when I was last there, which is a while back now, they were still there. Unfortunately I can't provide any further info as to location or number of them..

For all you Cumbrians...or holiday makers...
Just had a fun sunny afternoon doing SRT by the River Eden near Armathwaite.  No bolts etc, but lots of trees, and dangling over the river.  Made even more exciting by the odd looks the climbers give you when you turn up with ascenders etc.
