Access to Whitescar Caves

Would it be too late to arrange for access to Whitescar caves beyond the show cave area for the weekend of 6-8 March for Cardiff Uni Caving Club? If it's not too late, who in particular should I direct my enquires?

Cheers,

Contact the management direct. IIRC everyone needs to show their BCA membership card(s) and you may also be requested to purchase a ticket! Discretion while changing is essential.

It's been about five years since my previous visit so circumstances may have changed; perhaps someone from the area knows the latest score.

N.B. Wetsuits/neoprene socks highly advised - it's exceptionally aquatic and the water is cold throughout the year.

As cap'n says above; AFAIK it's still just a case of contacting them directly.. Been a few years since my last visit and back then you had to be there and in the cave early and pay a small fee. Someone else arranged it not so long ago but the weather had other plans, so if the weather seems even slightly suspect be prepared for another trip as they might not let you in!

I'd agree with a wetsuit - I remember being on a trip when someone did it in a fleece, he looked a bit chilly at the end of the stream.. And it is a good trip as Graham says  (y)

Neoprene is the way to go, deep canals, wet bedding floating and a boulder to duck under as well, but all good fun  ;)

did it last november. i think book in advance and pay money at entrance. I wore a wet suit which I think is ideal for a trip to the bitter end and means you can swim through the lakes. Others wore neo fleeces and were fine and Geoff Yeadon did it with fleece and oversuit - but he may be impervious to the cold. There are some pics of the trip on facebook in  my caving album. It was first trip in there and I really rated it highly.

No reply from Whitescar, though we had a few excellent trips in Bar, Flood and Marble Steps over the weekend anyway so no harm done.

Thanks for the info anyway though!

yes, it was a bit of a damp, miserable day. Did you guys have a good trip down there? The New Inn any good?
