Alum deviations/rebelays

I was wondering if the route down Alum Pot to the bottom via Dolly Tubs can be rigged using rebelays instead of the deviations shown in my guide?

Due to a dodgy shoulder (and poor technique) I try to avoid deviations, but am OK on rebelays

cheers

There's only one deviation you'll need to avoid and that's for the main hang from the bridge to the floor of the main shaft. You have a number of options for routes here, although if it's wet, you've really only got one. I think you might struggle coming up with a decent belay to rebelay from, though. If it helps, the deviation from the furthest hang is really quite nice and opposite a ledge so you can push yourself out using your legs. Very little stretching or awkwardness required.

Dollytubs can be rigged from the farther/window route which has no deviations just a traverse to a rebelay (although I've never used a deviation on the other route). The only other problem is after the bridge, but, from bottom of the bridge head towards the waterfall, use the furthest y-hang from the bridge, over the edge and there is a rebelay near the top - no deviations needed although it's not the most pleasant hang when wet!!

Thanks for the tips.

Its on the list to have another look down there, but will wait for some dry weather!

Isnt there a direct hang from the west(?) wall. all the way to the bottom - perhaps one rebelay just over the lip.

it would get you down and back up (with plenty of time for a look round whilst resting on the way up I seem to remember).

Certainly is .. one y-hang rebelay over the lip, as you suggest.

Getting out of that pitch one weekend a few Julys ago made my furry suit stink for weeks to come.

I dreamt of a foot jammer that night  ::)

Good point about the more direct route, however the simple fact is I try to avoid big single pitches, mainly due to the fact they scare me!!!( also I dont have a single rope long enough, probably due to the reason already given!)
