Googled it - got a weird video of some guy rushing about braining people with a frying pan...

OK - I was there too.

Dave Gill thought it was a good idea (I suspect cheap) to buy Amazin Raisin bars instead of Mars bars as expedition rations on the PSM '73 expedition. As it turned out, there's a good reason why they aren't in the shops any more - they were shit!

It did raise hysterical laughter when an ammo box of food was sent down to us after an unscheduled stay in Strans Gill Pot a couple of months later and had a row of Amazin Raisin bars on the top! It also caused the erstwhile rescuer to run back up the ladder, convinced that we were unstable as well as hypothermic.
Trapped by flooding twice in 2 months - both times Amazin Raisin bars to eat!

The Amazin Razin Show was the Eldon and friends assault on the PSM in 1973. It was my first expedition and an absolute blast! I don't know so much could get crammed into a fortnight - waking the campsite at 2 in the morning and encountering Pyjama Bill, trying to push the Arphidia, photographing the Salle Verna, digging drainage trenches (led by JRat) to stop the Speleo Club de Paris from washing away in the Pescamou Doline, walking over the lapiaz in an electrical storm (you hold the tent pole; no, you...), finding new stuff at the bottom of the 1300ft shaft that we subsequently got trapped on a ledge in, rescuing trapped Poles, finding out several French cavers were undeserving of their reputations etc....

Loads of fun.
