Another cave, Another heating oil spill?

Went on a trip to Tynings Barrows Swallet today, on reaching the stal squeeze 45 meters down stream of Pyramid Pot there was a very strong smell of Diesel/heating oil.

The smell was very similar to the recent heating oil spill in Swildons.

Both my mate and I felt that the air in general was bad, we were both feeling out of breath on our way down the cave and the diesel smell was the last straw. We had planned to look at the very end of the cave but the smell was so bad we binned the trip. :yucky:

Tynings is one of Mendips bad air caves this time of the year. That means our lovely little dig will also be getting CO2ee I suppose.

I took a trip down Tynings last Sunday (17th Oct) no smells or bad air then so this has only happened in the last few days (or at least made its way into the cave in the last few days).  We went as far as Drunken Horse inlet.

Maybe you should contact the CSCC Conservation and Access officer, Who has recent experience of this sort of incident, and take the appropriate decisive action??? :tease:

I vaguely remember an incident of diesel pollution in Tynings Barrow several years back, and after Ali`s talk about the Chartehouse extensions (at Hidden Earth `09) ther was a hypothesis about a hydrological link with Diesel duck.
