Another pantin lost in Short Drop!

So whilst keeping an eye out for adep's lost pantin, I somehow managed to lose my own! It's somewhere between the entrance and pitch head in Short Drop, probably at the bottom of a puddle somewhere. It doesn't have any markings but it's a left footer and I'd be very happy to see it again.

Lost pantins seem very common.
Where are they being lost from? Off the foot? Out of tackle sacks, off krabs clipped to harness??

It would be good to know.

Last weekend one of our party in JH lost their Pantin off her foot somewhere on the return trip along the cartgate - luckily one of the de-riggers found it, and as he didn't have one, put it to good use in the shaft. Hopefully he'll be persuaded to buy one now. I switched to the TurboFoot last year, so pretty much the only Petzl gear I'm still using is the Omni krab.

Just a though: if you clip the Pantin strap to a krab on your harness the strap can come undone (the black one).

I leave my Pantin threaded at the buckle, and the excess strap ( the bit you pull to tighten) has a knot in the end. So, it can't come undone and you have something to grip when pulling tight on your foot.

Probably won't work by the time you get to size 10 though.

Now I've said it.....bound to loose my Pantin next time out ! Then there will be tears!

My pantin has a hole in it which I then clip a carabiner through. It’s fairly snug so assume this helps with it not falling off.

I have however lost a hand jammer on my way down ireby fell, only noticing at the bottom when I needed to come back up..

^^Beware 'hard' clipping kit. I've lost two Petzl knives clipping them direct through the krab hole. When squirming about they are prone to self-unclipping, a bit like the issue of direct clipping hangers then moving along a traverse line.

Incredibly the second knife, replacement for the first one , was lost the very first time down a cave! Slow learner! I now have the knife on a short quick draw, so 'soft' clipped. This seems to have solved the problem.

When I clip a Pantin to harness via its own strap this has the same effect. So far so good. My Pantin doesn't have the hole, but I wouldn't use it if it did. Or I'd use a screwgate.

I usually put the krab through the part of the strap that goes under the wellie, but maybe this time I didn't

There's enough room in the slot that the strap goes through to also pass a narrow bit of cord for securing the pantin to stuff. This also takes up less room on your krab, which is nice. I'll take a photo when I'm home :)
