The CCCC's annual dinner is next weekend. And in the usual faffing manner of believing someone else was organising it, despite knowing the date for months in advance we haven't yet decided on what cave trip(s) to do.

We've been to mendip a few times before and hence know some of the usual suspects - default will otherwise be Swildon's to sump4, but I'd like to try something new. I'm looking for a 6hr trip for 5 people. If you're going to recommend a trip that needs a leader I'm going to assume you're volunteering! (as we have left it too late for the normal channels). Likewise we're unlikely to manage anything that involves posting off a cheque and waiting for a physical key, but we should be able to arrange a CCC permit.

Many thanks for suggestions and help (and offers of leaders!)

Assuming I have goggled the correct CCCC it'll be the weekend of 24th Oct. The same weekend that there are a couple of MCR activities planned.

Fri 23rd  Cave Link communications demonstration/workshop in the Long room at the Hunters.

From what I am led to believe, in the Mendips hardly any trip is more than 3 or 4 hours long, however I can think of a few of the top of my head, which are a bit longer.

If you want something 'ard, you could try part of the lower Eastwater roundtrip, its gnarly though and Grade 5, but needs no keys or anything like that. You will need ladders. I have not got the Mendip underground guide book with me to tell you how much gear it is.

Another one that looks fun but is unfortunately is a shorter trip is Longwood swallet, no leader needed but you would need to grab the key (and permit) from the Priddy hut.

Finally for a middle of the road in challenge trip, you could do Priddy green sink, again its locked but the full through trip should take about 5-6 hours for 5 people. You land next to sump 4 (upstream) so you would know your way from there. But be aware it is a pull through trip, so you want to know where you are going to get to the last pitch. Need some ropes, again without my guide book handy I don't know the length for pull through, I would guess 2x 50m? Also you will need to pre-rig the 20ft pitch.

Apologises as I started to add something last night and then my tablet went off. Also had a few to many ciders. Happy caving 😊
