Another Resin Anchor Website

Very interesting option and price is reasonable.
If the longevity is there then they represent a good investment.
Resin is grey in colour and reportedly has a 50 year life.

Better yet, made in Sheffield !

Having just installed a few stainless steel bolts and hangers within GG, I am interested to see how these Titanium anchors test compared with other options.

Can BCA and/or CNCC get some data out there ?

'We' are aware of this company. What they have done is make copies of existing well-known designs but in a different material. Titanium might well be a good material for making anchors.

If you feel strongly then get directly involved.

According to the website below "The British Caving Association (BCA) and regional bodies together regulate the installation of anchors." (full sentence, my emphasis).

Surely this isn't actually true, though?

Would it not be more accurate to state that they oversee and administer the installation of anchors in accordance with the National Anchor Placement Scheme?

The fact that non-NAPS anchors are installed here and there rather suggests that regulation isn't possible unless, perhaps, these non-NAPS bolts have been OK'd by the powers that be.

Dear Mr Simon Wilson,

In response to your demand, I installed anchors at some pitches within GG because I considered the existing anchors at these locations to be un-trustworthy old spits, many with highly corroded alloy hangers attached. These pitches are not on the regular trade routes within GG. I have installed stainless through bolts and stainless hangers.

I was not aware that I had to explain anchor installations to someone such as yourself.
Neither am I aware of the need for anyone digging or pushing avens to explain their anchor installations to you or anyone else for that matter.

Anticipating your next question of why did I not try and get CNCC to install 'P' hangers before my need for them.
A. I was not aware the spits needed replacing until I got to the area.
B. I am not going to stop cave surveying because of dubious old spits, I am going to get on with it and if need be install new anchors to the best of my ability for my use and the future use of others.
C. Having gone to all the trouble of getting to a remote area with a survey assistant, I am not going to decide to then turn around and leave that area until CNCC or someone else installs 'P' anchors.

Is it policy to stop cavers from caving until 'P' hangers have been installed in that area ?

Kevin Dixon,

What type of bolts exactly and where and why did you install them?

I'm sorry Kevin. You haven't replied and I think it might look as though my question was a criticism which it wasn't. I should have added my next question. But I needed you to answer my first question before knowing what to ask next.

I'll assume from what you said that the "stainless steel bolts and hangers" were through-bolts. I'll also assume that you don't have the capability of installing resin anchors. My next question was going to be, if resin anchors had been available would you have preferred to use them? And then I would have highlighted what I see as a fairly urgent need to get the resin anchor scheme drastically improved and get good resin anchors in the hands of responsible and active installers.

I certainly would not criticise anybody for installing stainless through-bolts with the present situation regarding resin anchors. I have found myself on several occasions over the past few years in the situation of needing to install resin anchors and not having any. A couple of years ago the caving club that must not be named re-opened Resurrection Pot which has three pitches. I installed some stainless steel through-bolts. 10mm hangers needed in case anybody's daft enough to go there.

I assure you I wrote this before your reply.

Look no further. They're been there all along - available from your friendly local travelling caving supplies* stockist:

* There's masses more choice if you use the internet and Google, too, obv..

Quite right. But none of them are as advanced as mine in terms of how they load the rock.

The Raumer does seem to be the anchor of choice for the so-called 'rogue bolters'.
