Anyone been to Notts Pot recently?

Arrived to find a significant 'slump' into the entrance. It looked recent. Some seriously big boulders have moved, partially blocking the entrance. Loads more stuff is teetering waiting to fall and block it some more. Still possible to get in and out via the entrance series but an awkward little climb to join the 'trade route'. Fatties needn't bother trying.
Take care folks!

Must had been all that rain a couple of weeks back, wonder what over caves that rain has effected?

Also possibly the recent freeze-thaw cycles - quite often that will shatter rock and cause loose boulders.

When we went yesterday it seemed ok. Certainly tighter than it used to be, but we all fitted without much hassle. It's a bit looser than before around there, but (without meaning to tempt fate!) it didn't look like any further slump was imminent.

Some large boulders in the floor below the climb immediately after the crawl seemed looser than I remember too.

Our club has received the following message from the CNCC Leck Fell meets secretary -

Hi - Just a quick note about Notts Pot. You may already be aware but the
entrance to Notts Pot has partially collapsed and at the present time
appears to be in a rather precarious state. Although the cave is enterable
just about at this time - it would be advisable not to go near the place for
the time being until efforts have been made to make the hole safe.

I will keep you informed of developments but I would advise to make
alternative plans rather than risk a trip down Notts Pot at the present
time.

Current status: There has been collapse from the adjacent shakehole which has run in to the main entrance and spilled over the lower retaining wall, partially blocking the entrance. There is a gritstone boulder approx. 1m x 1m x 0.5m which is very close to the entrance, though it appears quite stable it is going to be difficult to shift. The biggest problem though will be stopping any further collapse, it may be possible to wall it up. The entrance space is about 1ft max so is not suitable for the larger caver at present!

CNCC are hoping to arrange a working party to sort it out soonest.

If you publicise the day of the work party I'd be happy to help.

Sorry, this post is by Trog, but for some reason I am being asked for a password before I can log in. As I've always just stayed logged in ever since I joined, I haven't a clue what my password is. I've also changed my email address since joining, so the password reminder has been sent to an email address I cannot access. Can anyone help me? I had to register as Trog's friend so I could write this.

A working party is being organised to hopefully sort it out before the end of March. I have told the organiser that Trogs Friend and Barrabus have offered help, and he will be in touch.

Update: The working party reports that the boulder is history (actually, its constituent parts are part of a new retaining wall). Some stabilisation work has been carried out, and more will be done later in the year (after the closed season). Thanks to all who helped (and offered to help).
