was asked the first time I went that way why I did not put one in, didn't think it needed one if one does the crawl, think if going straight on then possibly would put one in.mind you would probably have helped if I had read the description properly

Don't forget the traverse line to get across Flood

It took me ages to figure out where you meant, I was thinking you don't need to cross Flood to get to bar, but then I realised you meant the hole at the bottom once past the big pitch. I used one on my first trip there but not since, I don't really need one. I have been on far more dangerous public foot paths that were narrower and larger drop offs!. At least there the wind is not trying to blow you off.

I was there once on a really very wet day indeed, there was a line of six or seven waterfalls across the roof of the main chamber and the draught was whistling across South-east Pot. Not dangerous, I don't think, but bloody cold.

I must admit I had to stop and think what the flood traverse line was.. I don't think I've used one (unless it was in situ on a winch meet perhaps), but I guess it's like lots of things in life, some people would prefer to use one whilst others wont; personal preference!

Narrower usually equates to people being more cautious. The larger drop off is irrelevant, SE Pot is more than enough to do significant damage and, of course, you can't be picked up by the RAF at the bottom of a pothole..

Wait till the 2nd book appears, which will greatly amplify on all the main caves in all the main catchments. I suspect (from a privileged position of having some inside knowledge) that it'll be even better than the 1st book (if indeed that's possible!).

Oh, it's possible, in the old Limestones of NW England book I always preferred the detailed look at areas. Do we have any idea on when we can expect the 2nd book?

Well I can only read a few  pages, then I have to let the information 'sink' in or like when I first got the book and read about a quarter and couldn't remember a bloody thing. So pleanty of time before I need the second book.

I was told by those cavers of yesteryears that Bar Pot was a phreatic riser.
