Birks fell tomorrow

We are sat in the bluebell Inn having a heated debate about doing Birksfell tomorrow. Forecasted possible heavy rain overnight and fine tomorrow afternoon. We know the cave is unsafe in wet weather but does anyone know how quickly it responds to rain. We are hoping there's not much rain and we will be ok if we set off well after lunch but it's not a million miles away from sheets gill which floods well after rain. Any local knowledge welcome.

The rain seems to be forecast for overnight and diminishing into the morning.  Run off into Birks Fell will be rapid.  If you check the weather forecast again in the morning to make sure there is no change then the trip would be done on falling water levels.  Go midday or later as you suggest to check it out.  If you can get in ok then the trip should be fine.  That's what I would do but,of course, you are responsible for your own decision.  It is not like Sleets Gill.

I appear to be smothered in unhappy collies at the moment, they don't like thunder!. (Peak District).

Thanks for the info. There was some impressjve lightning and some heavy rain but just overcast now. Been to breakfast and the river is still low so we will have a walk this morning and see what the day is like this afternoon.

Was down a flood prone cave on Saturday myself. It was as dry as a bone.
