Crosslow cavern was lost due to levelling of the field around the shaft top, it did sound interesting with chambers and a washing floor etc, draining towards Waterfall Swallet.

Black Hole Swallet has never had any cave associated with it to my knowledge, and I dont think there is any thing much to see on surface.

Hi, I visited Crosslow Cavern when it was still accessible back in the late 1960's. One large chamber approx. 100 ft long which contained the washing floor. I think we used 2 ladder on the shaft, which would give a drop of about 50 ft. Can not remember any active stream or water in there. We believed that the original waters had drained towards the east and not towards Waterfall Swallet. I think that PDMHS were involved at some point. You might be able to get some more info from their achieves?

Thanks, i've also found a reference to Crosslow in a paper on Hungerhill Swallet..

'To the west it passes close to Dustypit Mine shaft, through the lost Crosslow Cavern, through Waterfall Swallet, dying out just west of Foolow. Obviously it has an important influence on the situation of the swallows, and may govern the path of the legendary master cave.'

Im interested in the 'lost connection to Foolow/Stoney master cave' mentioned in ccopd (but realise this will have been done to death over the years) so any historical/exploration information on the area would be great to hear..

Cheers
Matt

I reckon it's under Linen Dale. We got a huge divining reaction when we dug Linen Dale Cave and Paul B did some "downstream" of the current entrance. I reckon this is the Waterfall stream. Access to this should be cleared up by DCA as a matter of urgency if progress is wished to be made upstream of Merlin's.

All imho of course.
