    An informative discussion

Recently there was long thread about the BCA. I can now post possible answers to some of the questions, such as "Why is the BCA still raising membership prices when there is a significant amount still left in its coffers?"

Boss Aven

Can anybody confirm if Boss Aven (Giants) is permanently rigged or not?  I've been told that there is a rope up there somewhere but it is not immediately visible when looking up from Boss Chamber. The climb up looks a bit tricky without something to clip into at a convenient stage. Cheers.

The climb from the streamway can be awkward but the next pitch if not rigged is freeable, once up this there is an awkward climb over a huge flowstone into a 45 degree sloping passage that leads to white Lion Chamber. On the right of this chamber is the 'T strainer' this is a tight convoluted tube into an aven (very pretty, please do not push any further even though it looks wide open) and downhill to a mud sump. Other leads off White Lion Chamber are up to the gallery, this is a bridge where you can look back to where you entered the chamber, up again leads to two smaller avens but these don't go very far. There is an article in descent about the 'T Strainer' and the digging that took place in the 80's by myself, Tom Brown, Tony Revell

loop on the end of handline at the top biggest pitch of boss aven in giants was very frayed. that was about a couple of moths back.

It is possible to get through to this lot via a tight squeeze from the syphonable sump above Base Camp Chamber that me and a another guy dug out many years back. Apparently it's pretty tight though. We never got through when we were digging it. I think Rob Eavis may well have been the first person through....
