bridge jump at sedburgh

Hi has anyone done the bridge jump on the old railway bridge over the Lune recently (just north west of Sedburgh

here -

Did it years ago, and was just wondering if its still 'allowed'. We asked the permission of the farmer last time (well stuck a note to his door as there was nobody in) And he was pretty cool with us when he wandered across and asked us if we where 'practicing our abseiling'

These things have an anoying habit of getting banned - or made impossible (like at monsal)

Just wondered if anyone knew the access situation at the moment.

That'll be a no then.
Not there.
Did it some years ago at a bridge in S. Wales (which I believe has been knocked down since).
100ft of rope to go under the arch and back up the other side and a 110ft drop to the ground.
One of the lads swung upside down and recconed that the cuts in his hands were from the grass!!!
I don't think that I will be doing it again any time soon.

There is a bridge jump to be had in the Peaks...... (alledgedly)

Using the two parallel bridges in Millers Dale. There is a walkway underneath them for maintainance, with dodgey planks (alledgedly), and it is possible to jump from one bridge, tied on to the arch of the other. Needs to be done at an angle (as the bridges are skewed) and at night (apparently) to avoid irate parkies...

Note; That this would be considered reckless and foolhardy especially after beer.

I haven't done the jump, but I've paddled the Lune under the bridge a few times in the last couple of years and not seen any evidence that people have been jumping off. I suspect the condition of the bridge is getting worse and it may not be easy to get to the right spot?

It used to be a rite of passage at Bangor University to do a jump off the Menai Bridge until the police stopped it.  I knew a guy who did a pendulum off it and nearly wrecked himself on the mast of a boat.  I've personally never felt inclined to do this sort of thing as I haven't got enough bottle.

I fell off the parapet the first time! I'm not sure that I would have done it otherwise. It never seemed to get much easier either!

Went and checked it out this weekend. (will post some piccies when I get home).

Its still do-able. There are no banned notices or barbed wire.

There has always been a 'footpath' across the iron work made of sturdy planks with a 'T' bit that goes across to the other side to allow access to tie on ropes. There is a 'keeper' line still insitue to allow ropes to be pulled under the span.

There is a bird ban in place, from (I think) may to september) as Ravens nest under the bridge.

Theres some piccies here
