Lots of activity is taking place at the moment in that area , I would strongly suggest if heading their to make alternative plans , local rescue groups have been notified about many places being sealed up .

Box has been closed in various ways yes ,My mate who is on cave rescue their told me their is a lot of talk also about browns getting shut also , I am not 100% sure if this has / is going to happen . I still would advise just making alternative plans incase it does happen .

Went into Browns a couple of months ago no problem. Box is now definitely closed!

Wouldn't surprise me if Browns is closed also as two of the entrances are easily accessed by anyone?

When I went last year, the door of the Folly itself was missing. The exposed stairs in the folly were far more dangerous than anything in the mine, so the landowners need to sort that out before closing the mine.

Genuine question - is it Browns or Brownes? The Avon Trust could not clarify and maps show both. The original owner was Wade-Browne.

Referring to http://www.follies.org.uk/pdf/Foll-e 34 - January 2011.pdf in answer to the question Brown or Browne it reports that a
plaque in Monkton Farleigh Church and the Will of Squire Wade Browne the elder (held in Birmingham), both spell the name with a ‘e’.

Wikipedia hedges it's bets and gives both https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Browne's_Folly

Whilst it should be spelt with an E, it seems that the early cave explorers who gave the quarry that name didn't (the miners called it something else altogether)

I agree with Tricky, what we call Browns Folly mine was originally part of the Monkton Farleigh mines complex but is generally known as Browns due to the folly - so it would technically be Brownes with an E since its referring to the Folly. Maybe we should rename it again just to keep things interesting and just start calling it Brians Folly. Just to keep future historians on their toes.
