Bye George Pot - Mistral

GN and JC, Mar 06.

This was a really enjoyable trip down an interesting, and only relatively recently discovered part of Easegill. None of the squeezes turned out to be particularly tight, even the backbreaker, which I was a little worried about due to being somewhat lanky! It gave in fairly easily once we worked out the correct way to face (the name is not helpful!). The removal of wellies which is supposedly de rigueur was also of dubious benefit (although not unpleasent :D )

The hanging death near the junction with the cigalere streamway caused a little bit of concern to myself although thankfully you don't have to get too close.

The Cigalere streamway was brilliant, cristal clear water made avoiding the potholes in the floor fairly easy. The Grand cascade is a superb pitch and we were quite relieved to find that the fixed ropes were both in good condition. Unfortunately the same cannot be said of the crabs on the deviations which required a little persuasion to open and were also a lillte rustier than I would have prefered.

Once in Hall of the Mountain King James was a little suprised to see a mud lady-boy at the top of the chamber (he screamed like a little girl, which made me jump about 12 foot in the air). The amount of effort that has gone into this sculpture is quite incredible by the way.

We aslo failed to find the bypass from Leck fell lane to the Pippikin streamway yet again. Can anybody give us a clue?

The final surprise of the trip was some ice-pretties in the entrance crawl only a few meters from Hobbit Chamber.

George.

If you look back at the mistral thread in this section from september last year you'll see that I am the one who sculpted the lady boy with some help from our freshers. I don't know why it would make you scream I thought he/she was a fine specimen of wo-man-hood
I was down there recently and had my picture taken with it so I might be able to find it and post it here so everyone can see what a fine specimen it is.

Hi George,
I'm glad that you enjoyed Bye George - it is a "Smashing" trip. The Backbreaker was so named for historical reasons. On the first trip to push that section going upstream, Neil Pacey got stuck trying to pass the corner the wrong way around. Luckily Paul Wilkinson who had passed the squeeze 1st heard Neil's screams and managed to come back and jump on his head to affect an efficient rescue.

I agree that the hanging death reached after the nice grotto, but before you arrive at the Cigalere Streamway does need a lot of care but you can traverse right over the top of it and clamber down further downstream.

Take care on any fixed gear there - there's a lot of water goes down that pitch when its wet and the deviation bolts are not in the best of rock.

As for the Leck Fell Lane - Ratbag connection - when the Cigalere joins Leck Fell Lane, turn right (rather than left d/strm towards HOMK) the large mainly deserted canyon passage leads upstream for about 150ft to a wall of fill (with a small climb up on the right into the Misty Mountain series). About halfway between the (junction of Cigalere and Leck Fell Lane) and this wall of fill there is a muddied climb up into the roof of the canyon - a flatout bedding on the left (looking upstream L.F.L.) leads into the roof of Rat Bag - on a wet day the sound of the Rat Bag Stream helps aid location....

Ta for the info. We must have been close to finding the Rat Bag connection, but didn't bother climbing up too far into the roof... so we had no choice but to get muddy... next time maybe.

Was a fine trip anyway. The Mudladyboy gave me a bit of a fright because I didn't see it until I was right next to it, and then the first thing that came into my head was that it was a dead body. Quite embarrassing really... but quite funny for George who was watching. Though it was more of a shriek than a scream... but shows how much of a wuss I can be.

I quite fancy going all the way up Cigalere sometime... is it a good trip?

Cheers,

James.

I was down their a few months ago and sacrificed some of my beard to add pubes to his/her genitalia!

Cutting off bits of beard with a slightly rusty knife is not suggested!

Here is the picture I promised with me posing next to our lovely mud ladyboy

The Cigalere was always one of my favorite bits of passage on Leck Fell... very sporting and good for washing crap off your oversuit... only to get it crapped up again on the way out.

Is that what you are pointing at in your Avatar/photo thingy?
