    An informative discussion

Recently there was long thread about the BCA. I can now post possible answers to some of the questions, such as "Why is the BCA still raising membership prices when there is a significant amount still left in its coffers?"

did you ever manage anything- i had a look at the mendip googlemap thing and thats really good. it would be epic if you could do something like that, and then eventually if they all got combined, it could be for the whole of the country and each one could have some info about the cave- maybee a bit wishfull thinking tho

I'm not sure who you were asking this question of, but I have made a fair bit of progress with a googlemap for Matienzo caves. Take a look at http://www.geography.lancs.ac.uk/Matienzo/indexnmf.htm if you are interested. The 'M' links next to any of the site numbers show the map for that location. Or click the 'View Map of All Sites' link near the top of the index pane to see the whole area. (Takes a while to load as there are over 2700 site markers. Faster in Firefox than in IE6). The next phase will include cave survey overlays, which I am working on at the moment.

Google provide a fully documented API to enable you to build your own map pages for hosting on your own website. You can find out more here: http://www.google.com/apis/maps/

The example of this in action which helped me work out how to do some of the more complicated things was the Mendip caves map site created by Bracknell District Caving Club: http://www.bdcc.co.uk/mendip.html
