Caves and rain - crowdsourcing the numbers

I guess it all depends on what you mean by "in flood".  ;)

Various comments in the topic on Aquamole Pot over recent days suggest a consensus that last Wednesday's flood in the Dales (22nd November) was pretty exceptional. Actually it was quite normal for this time of year. "Exceptional" means events like Storm Desmond or Storm Eva (both in December 2015). This is why I think some care is needed if blackholesun's idea is developed.

I think it's potentially of great value (and a really good idea) - but it would be better to bear in mind all potential implications (especially the possibility of less knowledgable cavers trusting it entirely).

Mind you - there's nowt wrong with a bit of entertainment as MarkS suggested above!  (y)

Although I think that this is potentially very useful and a well intended idea, as Pitlamp points out, one has to be acutely aware of stating this or that as "fact", for obvious reasons.

That aside, you would also need caveats, as previously suggested, due to the huge amount of variables relating to each individual system and individual caver - for example, some people are quite happy to wade through neck-deep water, others are not so keen - my neck-deep (at 6'4" / 1.94m ) would mean that my vertically-challenged caving chums would need a snorkel to complete the same passage!
So we now have a sub-sub rating that states "if you are less than 5'7", it would be ill advised to attempt this passage after a period of light/heavy/torrential rainfall" ?

Cavingfox, Can I point out the new Northern Caves doesn't say that. It isn't in the volume.
Sorry! CNCC as subsequently commented.

The CNCC don't say it either.

First line of the CNCC cave description for Juniper Gulf currently available online:

"JUNIPER GULF November 2016
Juniper Gulf requires the weather during the previous few days to have been reasonably dry and the weather on the day to be settled, ..."
