Caving advice - Eastern Pyrenees

My parents have recently bought a place close to Perpignan. With the prospect of cheap holidays looming, does anyone have any knowledge of caving in this area?

Thanks

Hi Andrew,

Have done a fair bit over that way in the past and may well be visiting the area again in September if not before. Access to some of the systems can be somewhat delicate so I am reticent to post too much info on a public forum such as this. If you let me know how far from Perpignan you would be looking to travel and which, if any, caves you already know something about I can send you a PM with extra info as required.

Cheers,
Nig

p.s. It's good to see the CPC (used to be a member myself) getting farther afield than Horton in Ribblesdale!

Well they have bought a good place to use as a caving base!

There are three departments on the doorstep:

Aude:- Plateau de Sault has some deep caves, but not great length
Pyrenees Orientales:- Lots of Caves an hour drive West of Perp. Dont know much about them though
Ariege:- South or Tarascon, monster caves....

Try google for "speleo, ariege, aude" etc. and you will find lots of french sites...

here is a nice place to start....
