Caving and climbing in Bulgaria

Given the ridiculously cheap prices at the moment you can pick up a holiday home in Bulgaria for three or four thousand quid if you don't mind a bit of work. I know that Gaz Parry has just bought property out there.

It's a bit of a pipe dream but has anyone done much climbing or caving (not overly interested in mountaineering) in Bulgaria and can you recommend areas to be looking at.

On a related note, any area to avoid or any other pitfalls (I am sure there ary many!) Of buying a cheap property out there?

Plenty of cavers and caving clubs.  The only problem is the language.  A bit like bad Russian,

Plenty of literature...

pm me if you want the low down.

An expat northern caver I know upped sticks and bought a property over there a while ago. He runs it as a guest house. I think you can find this by googling on "The Rocking Chair Bulgaria" or something like that.

He advertises for people to stay there who want to walk, cave, climb, dive, etc. Might be worth getting in touch both for information about caving and about property purchase.

There's a lot of limestone over there, much of it untouched by cavers so far.
