I would like to congratulate all of the individuals and clubs who took part in the Cave Conservation Poster Competition. It is clear that all entrants thought carefully about the role of Conservation within caving and came up with some excellent strategies to highlight best practice. It is particularly encouraging to see that ?personal responsibility? for cave conservation is well embedded in the CHECC world.
A poster has a very specific function. It must convey a single clear message in an impactful way in just a few seconds. It is a difficult art to master, but when done well it can become an iconic image for generations.
The poster which best demonstrated these qualities was from ULSA with their Leck Fell Landfill Poster. A very striking graphic which looked like a homage to European Political Poster Art of the 1960s and 70s. (which was always going to appeal to a sentimental old socialist like me).It demonstrated great use of minimal colours and printed word. A very clear message highlighting a cavers personnel responsibility. The producer of this poster relied on graphic art more than software technology to deliver real impact.
The runner up from Southampton had a softer quality but still used the poster format very well. The  two  Southampton entries were quite different in approach and both equally valid. (although one had a rather ?graphic? recoil effect)
Several of the other entries were excellent for use in a ?Leaflet? format. I hope to be able to develop these further with permission of the authors and financial assistance from BCA.
Several of the entries (including the winner) require only a few adjustments to make them ready for external use. If you want part funding to pursue a poster or leaflet publication on cave conservation ? contact Andrew Hinde at conservation@british-caving.org.uk

Finally ? thank you for getting involved.
The future of CHECC and British Caving looks to be in safe and considerate hands, which is more than can be said for some of my generation ? who have a lot to make up for.
