Chelsea SS newsletter - Ogof Fawr survey?

I have recently enjoyed another nice trip into Ogof Fawr in Cwm Cadlan and I'd now very much like to see a survey. I know that one was carried out a couple of years ago and I've been led to believe that it might have been published in a Chelsea SS newsletter. In the past, some of these newsletters were available on-line but no longer are, so I'm unable to check or find out which issue it would have been in at the moment. Would any member or anyone with a collection of CSS newsletters be able to confirm whether it was published and in which issue? I should then be able to see a copy in the SWCC library or request it from the RFDCC librarian.

Thanks in advance for your help.

According to the Cambrian Cave Registry, there is a survey in WSG Bulletin Vol.7, No.1.

According to the WSG library list, that one is "Vol.7 No.1  January-February 1971" . This predates the breakthrough and big extensions of 2008 in which I am interested. But thanks for bringing it to my attention!

Hum, according to that link to the Registry, it's only 20 m long! I suspect a resource that needs a little updating ...

I believe John Stevens of Chelsea SS carried out a survey for Tony Donovan but I don't think it has been published in a Chelsea SS Newsletter.

Chelsea SS Newsletters online. The latest 12-18 months are members only but earlier ones are freely available. However not all have yet been uploaded, we are working backwards.

Rhys,

As JC says, survey remains unpublished. Best bet would be to contact Tony D when he gets back from Malaysia.

Regarding surveys in the CSS Newsletter, have you seen the one of LL2? Usual top notch production from JS and well worth seeking out (should be a copy in the library at Penwyllt).

Cheers,
Nig

Yes, there are "computer" issues getting the online version of the registry updated. I won't attempt to explain as I don't know the details...!

Some rival "registries" have more up to date info, if you're interested:

Thanks, I was planning to have a word with Tony if I had no joy here.

Yes, I've seen the Llygad Llwchwr II survey. Very nice.

The survey is mostly complete but one more trip is still required to pick up the passages in the entrance area. This is the reason why it has not been published yet. When the weather gets a bit less wet, I will try and finish it off, as  its been sitting around  for a while now.

Thanks for your input John. It really would be great to see it published.

Water levels were actually quite low on Saturday. I didn't look closely at the original sink entrance, but I think it's quite likely that last years flooding may have blocked it!

It is well blocked, was going to survey back from the inside. i.e up the rope on the left in the first chamber to see how near the surface I could get. Then do a bit from the outside. The slopes in this area all seem like they could move, so it could be fun?
