Chest Jammers

This was also old stock, but it?s more the thing for me. This one is dated 2011. They do appear sometimes.

It?s not entirely obvious why they stopped making it like this. My theory is because the cams lasted so long that the body wears first. Decades ago, every Croll I dumped was because the bottom hole was wearing out. That?s kind of them, isn?t it?

I have the Croll (pre design change), Anthron AS-30 and Camp Turbochest.

I prefer the Camp Turbochest. Small, light, but easy enough to operate even with my spade like hands, but it's the most expensive (or was when I bought it). The Croll you all know about, it just works. The Anthron is a bit fiddlier, but again, it works just fine. It's also cheap.

If I was replacing any of them now, it would be with a Turbochest.

On the plus side for the reduced fat Croll, I had occasion to down prussik about 6 or 7 metres using one the other day and found it much easier to do than with the old full fat version. Saved the faff of having to do a mid-rope ascent to descent changeover.
