Coal pit uncovered at Bridge of Allan Well House

I don't know if this topic has been covered before on UKCaving, but I spotted it on Facebook and thought some folks over here would find it interesting.

There's a Jacobite mansion in Stirlingshire, Bannnockburn House, where archaeologists have made an interesting discovery. Aerial photography, followed by a geophysical survey, revealed a hitherto uninvestigated circular feature, which was excavated by volunteers in 2022. Further excavations revealed an unusual vaulted roof of sandstone blocks and the lintel of a low doorway, leading to an 18m deep coal pit, with further workings leading off from the bottom.

There is a great write-up on DigIt Scotland and some photos with lots more info on the Bridge of Allen Well House restoration project's Facebook page.
