To Tartan Army,I am fully conversant with all aspects of the geological map thankyou !The rock underling Coniston Cold is good old Limestone and there is quite a bit sticking up in places if you use your eyes. There is much evidence of Drumlins also especially further north. There is a lot of Limestone on Inglborough but we have still had to dig through 20 ft of Peat to get to it.Peat is marked as Drift on said maps.
To Cave Mapper yes the feature we are all discussing IS marked as a Quarry after all!!!!!But the smallConifer plantation was also a Quarry which was easily seen in the early 60s.
To the original poster I find it hard to believe that said feature ever WAS a quarry. It still looks interesting despite the local farmer trying to fill it in during the 1970s.
So I suggest you have look round and report back here we all wait with great curiosity.
