Coniston Copper mines

I am in the Coniston area soon weekend and am thinking of visiting the Copper mines. I think many of the options are srt trips with fairly big pitches, but I looking mainly looking for a non srt trip.

I have heard that the Hospital level is worthwile, I am looking further any information and comments, how long would this trip potentially take?

Also are there any short pitch/ladder options in the vicinity to fill out my day?

Thanks

Not sure how far you can go in Hospital I've only ever had a quick pootle in there!
Have you looked at; http://www.aditnow.co.uk/mines/Coniston-Copper-Mine/

Theres plenty of other stuff around the area. Moss Head Slate mines are good for a quick visit if you're walking up the Old Man. More slate stuff can be found at Hodge Close and Cathedral and are worthy of a visit if you're over that way.

Non-SRT trips could include deep level adit to have a look at the flooded shaft at the end. Easy walk in/out.
Hospital level is OK but won't take up all day without using gear. Steel traverse lines in place above the obvious drops (put in for namho a few years ago I believe).
Up at Levers water there are some bits to explore, including the first part of the classic through-trip until the top of the first pitch. There are some traverse lines in situ if you feel the need to clip into something, but the decision to use these must be at your own discretion as the age & history (i.e. abuse) of the traverse lines is an unknown.
There's also an easy handline descent into another level up at levers water. Obvious timbered entrance on the right as you look down into the bloody great hole whilst standing with your back to the water. Nice green/blue pretties.
Don't attempt the bloody great hole in the middle - you'll understand why when you see it.
The Eric Holland book 'field guide to coniston coppermines' is very good for use in nosing about the area and is usually available in the village at a very reasonable cost.
There are a lot of false floors in these mines and lots of deads stacked on not much more than fresh air.
The slate mines further up towards the old man are walk in/out without the need for gear - apart from a good light to see the really big stuff waiting to fall from the roof.
