Council for the Southern Caving Community

Having noticed (should have noticed sooner) that CNCC has changed its name to be the representative body for the Northern Caving Community I think this great initiative should be followed by our Southern Council and would like to propose it for their next Agenda for the next scheduled meeting.

CNCC had to change their name at an AGM because it’s a constitutional change that requires the approval of the membership (I think), although the potential new names were discussed over several committee meetings.

There would be nothing stopping you, as far as I’m aware, putting a proposal to the next CSCC AGM and campaigning to get the votes required to get it across the line.

As prior warning I don’t believe that the CNCC name change was an easy campaign to have and isn’t yet universally accepted (although I’m certain in 3 years time people will have forgotten as they only ever call it CNCC).

I was involved a bit on the sidelines; I don't think it was too difficult a proposal to bring through to a successful vote. It was planned well in advance and folk had plenty of opportunity to kick about and come up with suggestions. This led to it being crystallised into two of the more popular proposed names to be voted on, together with the option of not changing the name. It was all very amicable as far as I could see.

I have to say (and I'm not directly involved, so genuinely unbiased) that I think CNCC is being spectacularly well run currently. It's doing a great job for the caving community at large, in many ways.

I'm sure they have a process for this sort of thing. Have you thought of contacting them direct? Perhaps an email to the secretary would be a good start.

like Josh says, in a few years no one will really remember. there are certain members in the CSCC that believe the cscc is only for mendip cavers only. fortunately this is a select few.

The CSCC Secretary didn't respond when I ask(ed) for a link for their more recent online meeting(s)*, in accordance with posts here saying to ask and the link(s) will be forwarded. Past experience means I have little (zero) faith in the fit-for-purpose nature of that organisation in its current form. The current C&A Officer is a flippin' superstar though. He da man.

* Obviously I'm a PITA but then again "you can't make omelettes without breaking eggs".

I imagine that any perceived threat to the overlord status that CSCC has will be suffocated by being neglected. The likelihood that the organisation would support/champion non-club DIMs with things like their own personal CSCC key is beyond the wildest dreams of even the most ardent optimist.

Chris - worth a glance at the new CNCC Newslettrer, out today, for a bit more background on how the change of name was managed.

Wasn't much discussion on here about CNCC (my preferred "for ... caves and cavers" - although still ignoring mine explorers!):
