Had an email offer too - blimey! - that's four volunteers in one day. Looks like the job will get done after all. Watch this space for details about when it's likely to go ahead....

how about paying a goodwill fee for access to cuckoo cleeves, as only been down  cuckoo cleeves once about 10 years ago can't remember if this is already in place

I wonder what the market price would be for a goodwill fee to access Cuckoo Cleeves?

If Swildon's cost £1 to access up to 10Km of cave then, pro-rata, it seems a goodwill fee of 3p would be appropriate to access Cuckoo's 300 metres.

According to Cap'n Chris drystone walling costs about £80 per metre for labour.  There's about four metres that require immediate attention.  So that'll only need about 10,667 cavers to visit. :sneaky:

*puts calculator away for another year*

I'll volunteer to help with the wall too.  So that's five.

Why would you want to spend it? You'd get a lot more from a coin dealer..

Guys

If the walling takes place a little later in the year, then put Linda & me down to help. We have a small amount of expewrience in this department.

Hope any stone walling is going to be proper "rickity" mendip style walls that look like they are half way to a state of collapse rather than those concrete filled monstrosities that have recently appeared on Mendip under the guise of conservation

This is England, where far fewer industrial deaths occur than in most other countries.  (y)

That'll be because we don't have much industry.

... and because we protect idiots from removing themselves from the breeding pool.
Hence we have lots of breeding idiots in this country.

However thats another topic and this is off topic..... When stone walling needs to be done at coocoo cleaves (spelling designed to annoy the pedantic) let me know and if I am free I can turn up and maybe do something, at least watch everyone else working ;)
