Graham and Peter

If you aint got anything useful to say, why dont you bugger off.  I'm sick of people like you slagging off others on here just coz they dont conform to your high expectations/have anything to do with Darkplaces.

OK, its alright for one person to use foul language and personal insults, but if I wish to express my opinion on such a person's earlier posts then its me who should be vilified? Well, at least we all know what your position is, even if you do choose to hide behind a pseudonym firing off your offensive comments.

Recent???????????
My last post was in the middle of May, hardly recent.
Funnily enough it was in responce to Graham being an insulting Moron (again)
I only visited this thread to see if there was a need to clarify anything regarding the cancellation of the work weekend.
Instead I find tedious, insulting and pointless comments, surprise surprise they were from Graham.
Its really quite simple, if Graham doesn't want to know then he can ignore the  subject, if he wants to be a smartarse with pointless comments then why shouldn't a like attitude be returned to him?
I dont post here or read the forum very often, if you'd looked at the date of my last post you would have noticed.....

I did see when your last post was. I was commenting on the usefulness of your 'recent' posts i.e. there weren't any. I expect you have been doing lots of really useful things somewhere else. This is only a forum, after all. Not something that should really cause such emotional outbursts.

If "friends of Cwmorthin" was a proper club you could "join" I would have already
No Never! not in a millions years! It was designed from the outset not to be a club, not to run as a club and to basically be club mute/immune/ and other words that describe a non-need in neither a positive or a negative way. You don't need to be in a club to help or access Cwmorthin, we very much want to keep people like you visiting. We only stepped in because the owner was letting the entrance fall in.

No, I wasn't playing with anyone - it wasn't a wind up. As I have previously explained I have a strong personal connection with Cwmorthin and would gladly get involved in a group working to further its welfare...

Effectively, FoC is a club i.e.

club:- A group of people organized for a common purpose, especially a group that meets regularly

...only without the officialdom. The difference here is that instead of paying subs to join, the only way I can "get involved" is to randomly fire off a paypal donation, or turn up and volunteer. (I would have done already and still will when one of the working dates actually manages to land on a weekend I'm not working!) Therefore I am still "an outsider" to the club/group/bunch of mates and have no say/involvement. A cynic might suggest thats the whole idea - if you became a club you'd have to be answerable to the membership and not just do it your way!

Its been a difficult journey for us because of our views but we feel we have the right balance and we are an example to others how access can be maintained without funny handshakes  :read:

What you have achieved is most excellent and the "different" road you have gone down with insurance is quite an interesting one, however access still requires the visitor to contact the controlling body to obtain the combination for the lock - not really that different to having to visit the local caving club to pick up the key surely??? Just a different use of technology in an attempt to make it more convenient!

I think Hatstand your twisting the Club definition to make FoC look like a club.

Meets are not regular, they are iregular, ie not on a fixed basis but adhoc, and they are not meetings with a chair person etc. Meets are when work is done.

Key people run FoC however on a meet or via forums etc anyone can have a say, recommend things, nobody has to join, no membership exists! What this achieves is the ability to move quickly and not be bogged down with processes and monthly meetings. A quick discussion on say MSN or over the phone and the choice is made.

New technology is extensively used, we are the new breed using it. I have recommended to other key people how technology could help the Caving Club/BCA things but its been declined, instead leaving it so if access is wanted I have to know Bob in number 41 who may or may not be in to get a key. (sorry if a bob @ 41 does exist thats an example). I also indicated how technology could be usefull in the BCA membership but that was declined.

My word these DP members are so easy to wind up.

I really do wonder why they have such a large chip on their collective shoulder.

Just curious really - what does Darkplaces say every time the nice lady at the supermarket checkout asks if he would like to sign up for a Clubcard. I'll get me coat......

Why does every argument involving Peter/Graham/Darkplaces always end up with a big 'is it a club discussion??.

Maybe it's coz they are all jealous of the fact that coz Darkplaces aint a club it doesn't have all the politics assoiciated with being in a club  :ras: :tease:

To use the vernacular with which you seem so familiar, I really couldn't give a sh1t. I think DP recognises a good wind up when he sees it, unlike others. If you come on a forum and stick your head above the parapet, you can expect to have people taking pop shots at you from time to time. At least here it is (believe it or not) done in good humour.

I would beg to differ, sometimes the abuse (and yes I'll call it that) is coming from moderators who the modify their posts (YES you know who you are wink wink) :tease: :tease: :tease:

Damn right.  (y)

And for what it's worth, I think you'll find that the vast majority of members of my club are not in the least bit aware of anything that might resemble "politics". We ain't smug about though, unlike the members of certain other "clubs" ;)

Nice to see this has descended into the usual bout of insults!  (y)

A big Christmassy pat on the back to all who have helped and Bah Humbug to those who mock! If anyone wants to buy a lovely calendar with lots of pictures of lovely underground spaces, I believe there are a few left: all proceeds go into the Cwmorthin club fund and will help to maintain access for those who want to amble in and reap the rewards of the hard work of others...  o_O
