For companies it is a pain in the neck but as an individual I'm quite pleased that there is legislation to make them take care with my personal data.
Absolutely Cookie! Data Protection is there primarily to protect the interests of individuals. It not just red tape for the sake of it. The regulations don't seem that onerous. Clubs should be protecting the interests of their members and former members by obeying the law.

I've been signposted to this article this morning, maybe others will find it useful too.

posters of member's names & addresses & phone numbers in the clubhouse!
I seem to remember that it is a requirement of FCA registered societies formerly known as Industrial & Provident Societies (so for those clubs or organisations that have "Limited" at the end of their name) to have a list of members (also known as "shareholders") readily available at their registered premises, usually their club hut. This appears contrary to GDPR.

Not if that list is held in a secure manner. But a link for a simialr set up at https://www.fca.org.uk/publication/forms/apply-access-register-of-building-societies-members.pdf does indicate "The register must be kept at the society?s principal office or such other place or places as the society?s directors think fit.".  So there may be wriggle room.  Ask the FCA.

Thank you Bob. I will ask them.
Although if the other Registered Societies (you know who you are) find out the answer first then it would be nice if they would post it here.

For those interested in GDPR Matt Wire (in his BCA role) has suggested the following link;
