What was going on? I went bouldering at minus 10 wall and couldn't get in the layby for cars and a rescue vehicle. Was it a training exercise?

Yes - nothing serious, just an exercise, linking Hanging Flats, Nickergrove and Merlins by radio with various above-ground stations.

Apologies if we got in your way, but most vehicles moved up to the spots opposite the Delph and Horseshoe, so there should have been a bit of space at Lovers Leap.

It was no problem to park,  I didn't think it was anything serious as everyone looked pretty relaxed. Did you manage to get the radio link to work?
