Lava tubes on the moon.

Found by looking for open holes. A steady 17C inside, so a lot warmer than UK caves.

According to a documentary series broadcast in the early 1970's, the easier way of finding these would be to look for the shiny metal dustbin lids that usually cover them.

Would you live in a lunar lava tube? Would the steady diet of soup and blue string pudding get a bit monotonous? Would you rebel against Major Clanger's autocratic rule?

They are the perfect pre-existing structure - considering all other construction-based options, I suspect these would possibly be the easiest and most cost-effective sites to start building habitats within. Of course, maintaining a breathable atmosphere is paramount, so I would suggest at least a return mechanism on those dustbin lids. And a few spare locking-nuts on a cord.

Derbyshire key, or padlock?

IIRC, Valley Entrance had a dustbin lid on it at one time. Anyone heard any funny whistling noises in KMC?
Yes as it happens, some time in the '70's, although it turned out to be my brother's friend, who didn't have a wet suit, decided to skinny dip the duck, sadly no soup was available on the other side.
