Derbyshire sport trips tier list

I thought it would be interesting to create a ranking of all the main sport trips in Derbyshire!
Z tier is for caves I don't feel I can properly rank, as I haven't done them fully, and ? is for ones I don't know enough about.
This is just my opinion, so let me know if you disagree.

Good to see you on here winnatt’s caver. When you’re next out let us know and we can point you to longcliffe, white river and if the stars are right speedwell.

The eldon’s crusader is good too, an adventure to get there, which is nice!

What's the criteria for the rankings? There's a couple up there that I wish weren't there, if I'm honest, but not for difficulty. But yes, you need to see Longcliffe for sure.

Kind of funny, but yes, the order seems completely random. Why on earth would JH or Titan be on a level with Moss Chamber, Rowter very oddly low, etc.

My first time going down Rowter was slightly marred by having to wait 2 hours at the top for another trip to come up first. By the time we got down we were shivering and exhausted. I enjoy moss chamber for it being on the harder end of horizontal trips, and JH and Titan are both long SRT trips which don't overstay their welcome. For JH you have Bitch Pitch which I love, and the main draw of Titan for me is the spectacle of it all.

I was scheduled to do some dive bottle carrying down speedwell, but it got cancelled due to rain. Would love to get down Longcliffe soon!

I put it off my general enjoyment, also factoring in how 'nice' the cave is. I've enjoyed digging down Odin, but the mine is unarguably old and crumbly, so that makes it slightly lower. I think you've spoke to me about Longcliffe (I'm Joe Walker from SUSS). I'm considering coming to the TSG and doing it soon!

Ah right, of course. In that case yes. But not in the next two weeks as I'm already booked up for that :)

I reckon entering via JH, then doing the Far Sump Extension vertical round trip (up Calcite Aven, down Ride Of The Valkyries) and out via Titan is one of the finest SRT trips in the country. A lot of rope will go past your face and you'll see some big cave passages en route (i.e. it's not merely ropework).

Crumble & Beza above Elizabeth? Interesting.
Agree, I love Elizabeth but consider Beza & crumble as annoying drippy hellholes. Think I’d even prefer to get to the further reaches via Elizabeth & the duck, you’ll get wet either way.

Edit:
I’m not slagging Winnats Cavers choices off for the sake of it, honest. Opinions just differ.

I might consider it if you promise there is no mud.

Very little to no mud. Cow Arse Worms near the bottom of JH sadly being one of those bits, then from RotV to the left hand turn towards AI has a little bit.
A great loop, going up the Vortex pitches for completeness is worthwhile.

Agree with Alex; extending the loop via the longest of the Vortex pitches and Balcombe's Way Aven is a worthwhile addition.

Fjell, yes there is mud in places but not in most areas. Mostly big romping passages and airy shafts, some on a continental scale.

You gave me a crisis of confidence compiling a subjective list - is my opinion valid 😂

I've managed to correct your list.

PS I'm too fat for Derbyshire hall and too sensible for CoH

I agree more with your rankings here. But, I think Crusader series should swap with Water Icicle and Speedwell with Bagshawe... IMO :)
