disappearing floor

hi there everyone, was recently talking to the land owner in stoke st micheal to get a entrance picture for my mendip cave map. i had an interesting conversation with him, when he told me that a hole had appeared along the the edge of his field and that we could go have a look. when we got there we found the floor had dropped about 10 ft was about 5ft wide and at least 25ft long with mud at the bottom. apparently water goes down the hole when it rains and disappears. loose rubble had been put into the hole only for it to sink into the floor again. was wondering if anyone would be interested in having a look as I'm no geologist.

Im sure im just statign the obvious but it sounds to me like the definition of a shakehole/doline, given the good drainage it sounds like it connects to a moderate size structure (or lots of little fractures). depending on how close it is to Stoke lane slocker  it could part of system; if so then any exploration of this would open the whole do we need another entrance past the sump debate.

I don't think it is part of stoke lane slocker, as it is the other side of the village, at least 1 km from the stoke lane entrance. Sure is something there though!
Chris, I'll bring some shovels!
