...... ahem! The permit actually has written on it "No novices or under 16s" on the front and "Novices must not be introduced to caving in the Charterhouse Area Caves" on the rear.

Seems pretty specific and unarguable to me

When does a novice stop being a novice..........?

Quite intentionally, access bodies like CCC Ltd do not have a prescriptive policy on this. Some people are capable of caving safely and sensibly after a very short time, others don't manage that for years.

....hmm, I can think of lots of cavers who've been caving for donkeys years but whose caving style is,... how shall I put it?.... "interesting"!

Remember: it's only slander when it's untrue.

The permit actually says that people should not be introduced to caving in GB, not quite the same thing.
Permit? What's that?

Do I take it from this that the Cheddar no longer have any interest in the Charterhouse Caves?

What are you on about? It was a sarcastic comment about the common practise of not obtaining a permit, as you know full well. And yes, the Cheddar CC use permits which we usually obtain from the Axbridge sec.

I would start a debate with Cap'n Chris about what constitutes a novice, but that would be about as interesting as whether you should tuck yor oversuit in your wellies or not!

OK Chris, so you can make a sarcastic comment, but not recognise one. never mind, I'll explain when I see you.

Yup, not only was the place used this weekend, it now has a spanking new generator, kitchen worktop and storage units. And the owner is still there.
