Drought....

No water sinking at Bridge Cave yesterday. Didn't wander upriver to see if any water going into the Little Neath entrance. Very little water coming out of the Pant Mawr resurgence but significantly more coming from the Little Neath resurgence - there was a proper river diwnstream of there.

If no water was sinking at Bridge Cave then there should be no chance of any going down Flood Entrance.

That is very interesting, what you say about the volumes at Pant Mawr resurgence compared to Little Neath resurgence.

After an entertaining hour or two earlier, I can confirm there is still plenty of water in Hyperthermia. Perhaps less than usual, but still ear-wetting in many places and shiver-inducing.

And I can confirm from this same afternoon that doing Hydrophobia in a furry without knee pads is a Very Silly Idea as the coldness hides the pain until one gets back to the car - outch.

Given the dry weather would the Font in Bogg Hall and Guinevere's Slit repay another look?

Boat levels at Nantymwyn?

They blocked.
Upper has a fall a short distance in, portal has been dug and drained the past so dry spell make no difference.

Lower is very solidly blocked, portal and higher. People have descended Coaling Shaft in the past and got nowhere.

Mine opportunities are there though. Upper Dinas, Cwmorthin, and possibly a few around Ceredigion. This weekend water was down about 3 feet in Taylors Incline at Goginan, Brynyrafr as mentioned, and some others.

Bog hall has not been checked but as Adrian was down close to 20m in The Font's shaft its unpromising. Guineveres and The Well are sumped with a significant flow into the downstream end of Guineveres.

My default is to curse the rain, but not today.
Finally it's raining and I'm sat drinking a brew with the windows open watching and listening to it fall. The world smells wonderful right now :)

Lal bit of rain at Clapham this aft - only maybe 2 - 3 mm though. Just enough to wet the plants and no effect on streams.

Mind you, the graphics on here currently suggest there might be more yet to come for Ingleborough:

Not even enough to dampen the tarmac at Austwick! So very local, but has the rain smell though

Some bright spark I went on a trip with said it's the smell of ozone. I remarked on the difference of smell between a cave and the outside summery weather, and they mentioned it was the ozone.

Never bothered to look it up till you prompted me :)

Many thanks alastairgott

I had always wondered what the smell was. It was incredibly strong earlier tonight - now I know!

Much as I'm getting deeply worried about the lack of grazing with the ongoing drying, possible shortage of fodder come winter if there can't be later cuts of silage and haylage, and standpipes (Severn Trent have been round marking all the water points with blue this week ), there are also opportunities.

Parch marks and verdant spots are now very much apparent, so in areas where you suspect there might be something, you can look for the different bits for pointers on possible sub-surface features.

I will probably take a look this weekend, its a definite opportunity as there has only been access for a few years after a run in the engine shaft gave access to the main stope with a way down.

A report from Aber today describes Nant-y-Moch as "virtually empty".
