Honestly I think the best thing to do is to convert to a single 18650 cell and carry a spare.
The Duo runs about the same performance from a single 18650 as a set of 4 LSD NiMhs and if you carry a spare pack of AAs then carrying a spare 18650 is a saving and a further mass saving on your head.
I think the less you mess around with the sealing of the Duo is best. That is my concern, that I've mucked up something good for something which really isn't much in the way of an improvement.
To think I used to lug around an Oldham and now I'm concerned about a 100grams. although the fun of tinkering is undeniable.
