Since 2012 the Shannon Group have been exploring the caves and potholes of the western end of the Truskmore Massif in County Leitrim. Originally explored by various British and Irish groups from the 1950s to the 1970s, we have systematically been surveying and recording all the caves to a modern standard.

Since foreign expeditions were an impossibility this year, it was decided to run a week-long expedition to the area to explore and survey the caves of the southern half of the area, centred around the townland of Gorteenaguinnell, which contained innumerable caves and dolines, from hopeless rushy bog-holes, to booming 80m+ potholes.
